What words are in the winter word search?
The winter list leans into snow and frost, wool layers (mitten, scarf, sweater, parka), cocoa by the fire, and midwinter words such as blizzard, evergreen, woodsmoke and snowdrift. It stays with the season itself rather than Christmas characters, so it pairs well beside our Christmas theme without overlapping licensed names.
The full winter word bank has 72 words. Each puzzle picks a set from this list, so no two grids are quite the same:
AVALANCHE · BLANKET · BLIZZARD · BOOK · BOOT · BOOTS · CANDLE · CHILL · COAT · COCOA · COLDSNAP · DRIZZLE · EMBER · EVENING · EVERGREEN · FIRE · FIRELIGHT · FIREWOOD · FLAKE · FLANNEL · FLURRY · FOOTPRINT · FROST · FROSTBITE · FROSTLINE · FROSTWORK · GLOVE · GLOVES · GLOW · HAT · HEARTH · HIBERNATE · HOME · HOOD · ICE · ICEBOUND · ICECRYSTAL · ICICLE · LAMP · LIGHT · LONGNIGHT · MIDWINTER · MITTEN · MUG · NORTHERN · OVERCAST · PARKA · QUIET · REST · SCARF · SHIVER · SILENCE · SKATE · SLEET · SNOW · SNOWBANK · SNOWBOUND · SNOWDRIFT · SNOWFLAKE · SOFT · SOLSTICE · STILLNESS · SWEATER · THERMOS · TWILIGHT · WARM · WINDCHILL · WINDOW · WINTERIZE · WINTRY · WOODSMOKE · WOOL
Who is this theme good for?
Quiet December-to-February evenings, snow-day afternoons and anyone who likes cold-weather vocabulary without holiday pressure. Easy grids use short familiar words; hard grids pack longer freeze-and-fire words into a 15×15 board.
A solving tip
Several winter words share openings — SNOWFLAKE, SNOWDRIFT, SNOWBOUND. When you find SNOW, check the letters that follow before you move on.
How these puzzles work
Every puzzle is free and plays in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Drag across a word, or tap its first and last letter. Press Large print above any grid for bigger letters. Progress is saved on your device, and there is never a timer. New to word searches? Read how to play.
