What words are in the Halloween word search?
The Halloween list mixes harvest words (gourd, hayride, orchard, cider) with the gentler side of the holiday — lanterns, costumes, owls and moonlight — plus a handful of classic folklore names such as werewolf and vampire. Nothing gory, no film characters, and nothing aimed at small children.
The full Halloween word bank has 40 words. Each puzzle picks a set from this list, so no two grids are quite the same:
AUTUMN · BAT · BROOMSTICK · CANDLE · CANDY · CAULDRON · CIDER · COBWEB · COSTUME · CROW · FOG · GHOST · GOURD · HARVEST · HAUNTED · HAYRIDE · LANTERN · LEGEND · MASK · MIDNIGHT · MOONLIGHT · MYSTERY · OCTOBER · ORCHARD · OWL · PARADE · PORCH · POTION · PUMPKIN · SCARECROW · SHADOW · SKELETON · SPIDER · SPOOKY · TOMBSTONE · TREAT · TRICK · VAMPIRE · WEREWOLF · WITCH
Who is this theme good for?
It suits an October evening, a classroom of older students, a care-home activity hour or a quiet break between trick-or-treaters. The easy grid is a friendly warm-up; the hard grid hides 18 words in all eight directions, including backwards.
A solving tip
Long words with distinctive letters — the double O in BROOMSTICK, the two Ws in WEREWOLF — are easier to spot than short ones like BAT or OWL. Find the long words first and the short ones fall into place.
How these puzzles work
Every puzzle is free and plays in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Drag across a word, or tap its first and last letter. Easy grids are 10×10 with words across and down; medium grids are 12×12 and add diagonals; hard grids are 15×15 with words in all eight directions. Press Large print above any grid for bigger letters. Progress is saved on your device, and there is never a timer. New to word searches? Read how to play.
